Coach Anthony Atkins – Head Football Coach, Salesian High School
Coach Anthony Atkins is entering his sixth season as the Head Football Coach at Salesian High School, where he also serves as the Dean of Students. A proven leader and mentor, Coach Atkins has built a football program focused on discipline, academic excellence, and championship-level performance. Under his leadership, Salesian has consistently developed student-athletes who thrive on and off the field—boasting a 3.7 team GPA and sending players to prestigious institutions such as West Point Academy, Georgetown University, and several NCAA Division II and III programs.
Coach Atkins brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience. As a player, he was a three-year varsity starter at Long Beach Jordan High School, earning All-Moore League First Team honors for three straight seasons and being named All-CIF his senior year. He went on to play at Compton College, where he was a two-time First Team All-League linebacker, JUCO All-American, and ranked the #2 linebacker in the nation by 247Sports. He earned a full-ride scholarship to the University of Washington before finishing his collegiate career at Jackson State University, competing in two SWAC title games and securing one championship.
As a coach, Coach Atkins has helped over 50 student-athletes continue their football careers at the collegiate level and has coached five players who advanced to the NFL. He led a top-ranked defense for multiple seasons and was part of a CIF championship-winning staff in 2013. His coaching philosophy emphasizes accountability, preparation, and unity, helping young men grow into community leaders.
Coach Atkins is passionate about football and even more passionate about helping young men realize their potential—on the field, in the classroom, and in life.
